Trinity River Steelhead Fishing

Trinity River Steelhead Fishing

The Trinity River is located west of Redding CA (Interstate 5) near the towns of Lewiston, Junction City, and Weaverville along the Hwy 299 corridor. We focus our Trinity River steelhead fishing efforts from late fall through early spring. We offer trips for both fly fishing and conventional gear.

RIVER PURSUIT GUIDE SERVICE IS CA DFG LICENSED, BONDED, AND FULLY INSURED WITH PERMITS THROUGH BLM AND NFS.

FLY FISHING FOR TRINITY RIVER STEELHEAD IS NOT PARTICULARLY WELL SUITED FOR THE BEGINNING FLYFISHER DUE TO THE TIGHT QUARTERS AND TYPICALLY LOW/CLEAR WATER REQUIRING SOME LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE TO MAKE A GOOD PRESENTATION AND THEN FOLLOWUP WITH A SOLID FISH-FIGHTING GAME. HOWEVER, THOSE WILLING TO FISH HARD AND PRESCRIBE TO OUR MOTTO OF “THE GLORY IS IN THE PURSUIT” WILL HAVE AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE ON A BEAUTIFUL, INTIMATE, RIVER SETTING.

The primary technique we use on Trinity River fishing trips with fly gear is nymphing with a strike indicator. The pools and runs on the Trinity are very well suited for indicator fishing, and this has been by far our most productive way to earn strikes. Other techniques that can be productive at times include swinging wet flies and drifting dry flies (spring).

Techniques for the conventional gear angler on a Trinity River fishing trip will include back-trolling plugs, side drifting, and float-fishing.

We can accommodate 2 anglers per boat. Larger groups for Trinity River fishing will require additional boats and guides which we are happy to arrange. We provide all the necessary equipment along with a BBQ shore lunch. Rates are $250.00 per angler.

What's Included

Included in your guided fishing trip are all of the rods, reels, terminal gear (such as sinkers, plugs, etc.) and bait, all of which are of the highest quality. So, be sure to bring a BIG ice chest! Anglers will need to bring a fishing license, lunch, beverages and weather appropriate clothing, including sunglasses and a hat.
